The Cooper Temple Clause – Damage

Limited editions are de rigeur: making a single a precious little relic is now far more important than making the top 100. Example: The Cooper Temple Clause’s new single, Damage, was only available at their recent gigs.

Damage itself – now available for free download from drownedinsound.com – is a punchy, energetic number not unlike ‘90s indie rockers Mansun – a lot less synth-based than TCTC’s previous work and less original, but with a relentless, satisfying kick.

The B-side, Talking to Pylons, deserves mention: a gorgeous folky tune, rich with acoustic guitars, pianos, brass, backing chants and melancholy whistling, it makes the single more worth owning.

That and the novelty value.
