LCD Soundsystem - Live at Brixton Academy

LCD Soundsystem – Brixton Academy, 7th December 2005

Chris George

Gig crowds are too predictable. Go to a Babyshambles gig; Pete Doherty pretenders and wannabe-be groupies. James Blunt; dull housewives and the mentally unsound. But go to LCD Soundsytem and you see the wide-ranging appeal of their unmistakable brand of alt. dance, and this diverse crowd dancing together having the time of their lives. Warms the cockles, it does.

Make no mistake, LCD Soundsystem are a fantastic live band – you’d need a heart of stone not to get caught up in the music. They belt out their songs with an exuberance that engulfs the Academy and sweeps everyone off their dancin’ feet. That’s some kind of special. They’re not as exciting on stage as some bands (there’s no intense dancing, and they don’t start fights with one another) but what they do whilst they’re up there – the energy they create and the fantastic tunes they play – is mesmerising, irresistible and more infectious than bird flu.

If you get the chance to see them live, grab it with both hands and get ready for a fantastic gig, a gleefully diverse crowd and a whole world of dancing.
